After months of collaboration, experimentation, and innovation, the CODEDU Erasmus+ project is reaching its final phase. This journey has been more than just a research initiative, it has been a practical effort to rethink how coding and electronics can be taught in schools in a way that is accessible, engaging, and future-oriented.
As we close the project, we would like to share what we achieved, what we learned, and why one of our key innovations was integrating an AI chatbot into the Arduino simulation platform.
What CODEDU Achieved
Through CODEDU, we successfully developed a complete educational ecosystem for teaching coding and Arduino in schools. This included:
- An interactive Arduino simulation platform
- A full toolkit for teachers
- Training sessions and workshops for educators
- An AI-powered learning assistant
- Pilot testing in schools across Europe
Students were able to experiment with circuits such as smart lights, alarms, sensors, and simple robotics in a virtual environment—without needing expensive hardware.
Teachers gained ready-to-use lesson plans and confidence to introduce coding into their classrooms.
What We Learned
During the project, we discovered important insights:
- Students learn faster through experimentation.
Hands-on simulation makes abstract concepts easier to understand. - Teachers need simple tools, not complex programming environments.
Many educators want to teach coding but lack technical background. - Feedback and guidance must be immediate.
When students get stuck, learning stops.
These lessons led us to one key innovation.

Why We Integrated an AI Chatbot into the Arduino Simulator
One of the biggest challenges in coding education is support. Students often get stuck on small mistakes, and teachers cannot assist every learner at the same time.
To solve this, we integrated an AI chatbot into the CODEDU Arduino simulator.
The chatbot helps students by:
- Explaining how circuits work
- Identifying wiring mistakes
- Suggesting improvements
- Providing example code
- Answering questions in multiple languages
It acts like a digital tutor available 24/7.
This approach allows students to keep learning independently while teachers focus on guidance and creativity.
Why This Matters for Education
By combining simulation, gamified learning, and AI assistance, CODEDU shows how education can become:
- More inclusive
- More interactive
- More personalized
- More accessible to beginners
Students gain confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills that are essential for the digital era.
Impact Beyond the Project
Even after the official end of CODEDU, the tools and materials we created will continue to be used by schools and educators. Our toolkit and platform will remain available, and we will continue improving them based on feedback from teachers and students.
